Kinds of Asbestos Removal

Asbestos is a fibrous type of material that has been widely used in home building, the construction of public buildings, commercial centers, ships and even motor vehicles. It is a popular choice due to its fire, steam and heat resistant properties which make it ideal for manufacturing a wide variety of insulation materials.

Although asbestos has been in use for many years it wasn’t until the 1960s that people became aware of the potential for health problems with exposure to asbestos. Since asbestos is fibrous, the fine fibers can easily become airborne and then inhaled. The problem comes because our lungs cannot expel these particles, so they tend to accumulate. They may be tiny but they can puncture and work their way into the membranes inside the lungs which will cause scarring.

Many illnesses and diseases are attributed to asbestos exposure and this is especially evident in the number of people who worked in asbestos related industry, or lived in close proximity to an asbestos mine or factory, who have become ill. Several afflictions caused by exposure to asbestos are mesothelioma, several different cancers, and asbestos poisoning. The diseases don’t appear immediately after the first exposure. Often there is a long period of latency before these almost always fatal disorders make their appearance.

That’s exactly why Vancouver asbestos removal is so important if your home or apartment was built prior to about 1960. You’ll want to be especially careful if you have young children, as with constant exposure now, they could be affected 20 or 30 years down the road.

There are four classes related to the removal of asbestos. Class 1 is the most dangerous and always requires removal of asbestos materials and any thermal system insulation. Class 2 takes in all but thermal system insulation. Class 3 is for maintenance of the thermal system insulation and repairs to it. Class 4 is maintenance and repair to asbestos materials but no removal.
